Brighton Recreation Area is home to 21 miles of equestrian trails featuring forested areas, thick hedge rows, grassy marshes and open spaces. The trail also skirts Chenago Lake offering steep ridges with scenic views. The trail ranges from flat and smooth to hilly with rocks. A few stretches are described as somewhat challenging, but not intimidating.
There are several loops that are bisected by two country roads and a small stream crossing. For a longer ride, keep heading out on the outlying western loops. Easy-to-read signage is posted throughout the entire trail system.
The trails are open to hiking and horseback riding only. In the winter cross-country skiers can use the trail, but it's not groomed. Wheeled vehicles of any kind are prohibited on the trail. All park trails pass through lands open to hunting.
The trails are immediately accessible from the Brighton Equestrian Campground or the equestrian staging area large enough to accommodate all sizes of trucks and trailers. The staging area is outfitted with picket posts, an electric water supply, manure pit, vault toilet, a mounting block, a pavilion, picnic tables and a grill.
